Don’t Take Our Word For It… September 05 2014

Here at High on Health, we have no problem waxing poetic about how much we love hemp, how good it is for your health, what you can make with it, how you can wear it, and more! So this week, we thought it might be a nice change of pace to share ideas, praise, and recipes from other hemp lovers out there. Enjoy!

“I had been feeling sluggish during my workouts, so I ordered Thrive: The Vegan Nutrition Guide to Optimal Performance in Sports and Life by Brendan Brazier. I have to say that for me, this book has made an incredible difference. Brendan covers the nutritional benefits of hemp seeds in his book and he incorporates them into many of his recipes (also in the book). Since I started eating more hemp seeds, I feel unstoppable in my workouts and my recovery is noticeably quicker. I have been boxing training quite a bit and the strength and stamina I have has greatly improved. I have been using plain hemp milk on my homemade cerealsand yesterday I had a lovely box of blueberries in the fridge from the Pilsen Community Market so I thought, ‘mashup’.”

“My name is Rick Simpson. I have been providing people with instructions on how to make Hemp Oil medicines for about 8 years. The results have been nothing short of amazing. Throughout man’s history hemp has always been known as the most medicinal plant in the world. Even with this knowledge hemp has always been used as a political and religious football… Hemp oil if produced properly is a cure-all that the pharmaceutical industry can’t patent.”

“What do you think of when I say ‘hemp’? I think of marijuana and hippy homeless young women selling homemade hemp bracelets on the streets. However, hemp is appearing everywhere now in the form of hemp milk, hemp seed, hemp protein powder, etc. I decided it was time to look into the matter and see what all of the hype was about. (I will do a food tasting review of hemp at the bottom of this page, but in case you can’t wait to find out, hemp seeds taste great-a little like pine nuts).”

“Rather than using bulgur in her tabouli recipe, Gena uses hulled hemp seeds. I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of using hulled hemp seeds as a base for tabouli before (cauliflower and quinoa variations were as crazy as I got), but it’s a brilliant swap. This easy switch packs in loads of protein and healthy omega fatty acids, while doing without any cooking. Just chop, mix, and serve. Isn’t that what summer meals are all about? It’s the perfect recipe to whip up for a quick lunch on a hot day and even better if you are without an oven during a renovation. Pair this tabouli with some hummus and crackers (I served it with my Endurance Crackers made in the dehydrator instead of the oven!) and you have yourself a fine summer lunch packed with fresh summer veggies, protein, healthy fats, and more. Fresh, fresh, fresh!”
